More Weight Loss

Hi, Another week has past and I am pleased to say after a trip to my local Boots the Chemist I have lost another 2 lb in weight!! This brings my total weight loss since the beginning of September to 5st 2lb making my weight now 16 st 9lbs. I have only around 16 lbs to go and hope to finish within the next few weeks. The last few pounds are always the hardest even whwn you have a super fast metabolism like me!!

My Incredible 5 Stone Weight Loss in 5 months

Hello and welcome to my blog. My name is Edward Grabham, I am 40 years old and I live in the small village of Horton near Ilminster in Somerset England with my wife and children and this is the story of my weight loss. Please read on to discover what I achieved when I really put my mind to it!!

During the month of August 2009, I wanted to upgrade our life insurance as my wife and I had just taken on a large mortgage and our third baby was due in December. When I filled out the application form there was a section about my weight, at this particular time I was weighing in at a massive 21 st 10 lb!! I had to be honest and so declared my true weight!! My application came back saying I needed to be referred for a medical and if the results of the medical were in order then I would be accepted but my premium would be loaded as the risk to the insurer was much higher.

During the time I was this far over weight I suffered from a condition called sleep apnoea, a condition that means you are constantly tired as you rarely enter a state of deep sleep at night time because of severe snoring!! My snoring came with further problems, my wife had to move rooms and we slept apart for years as she just couldn’t bare the noise I made, I can remember she would sometimes say that she thought I was going to die during the night as I would stop breathing then start snoring again and I would appear to be struggling for breath and so it went on and on.

The reason for my weight was my diet, like most people I have a passion for food especially takeaways, shop sandwiches, crisps, chocolates etc and I would eat VAST amounts of the wrong things every day. My two older Children who are seven and four years old would often ask me to play in the garden with them, sadly I could only interact with them for a matter of minutes before I felt completely exhausted and on the edge of a heart attack!! I was missing out, my waist was a massive 46” and I had a 21” shirt collar. Our short family breaks together would normally involve going away and visiting theme parks, our favourite parks being Alton Towers, Drayton Manor, Chessington World Of Adventures and Legoland Windsor. All these parks offered great rides but they didn’t for me, most rides I could not fit into the seats and even if I did I couldn’t do the harness up I would be publicly humiliated as everyone would be looking at me struggling, again the children were missing out!!

All this upset and many more other problems and restrictions and for what? So many reasons to lose weight and only one to stay as I was, because I liked to eat!!

Something serious had to change, I had to lose weight I was suffering with raised blood pressure, blurred vision which then made me think I was becoming a diabetic – I was scared!!

Starting at the beginning of September 2009 I changed and started walking for 40 minutes a day (approx 2.5 miles) and started eating sensibly. On a typical day my food intake now consists of fruit for breakfast, either a sandwich or a bowl of soup for lunch and a sensible evening meal. I DID NOT EAT ANY DIET FOODS. I had to be strict and try to make sure I ate before 7pm. Early nights would follow too, before we had our recent baby, I would go to bed by 10.30pm, this would help combat the hunger feeling that would come around later each evening. If I had to have something, I would perhaps have a cup-a-soup or a large drink of water or squash, this would give me my ‘fix’!!

I do benefit from having a fast metabolism and this was a definite help, but if your metabolism is only half as fast as mine why can’t you lose say half the weight in the time I have??

I lost a whopping 5 stone in 5 months. My start weight was 21st 10 lb and my weight at present is 16 st 10 lb and still falling, my target weight is 15 st 7 lb. I now have a waist size of between 34” and 36” and a very respectable collar size of 16.5”. It’s a real pleasure for me to wear nice clothes again and to be able to walk into any high street shop and buy things off the shelf. Before I would struggle to find my sizes in the type of clothes I liked to wear.

I currently weigh myself weekly in Boots The Chemist in our local town and get a print out of my weight showing my loss. I have weighed my clothes and shoes and deduct the weight from the print out. Wearing the same clothes each time I weigh in and at a similar time is essential especially as now my weight loss has slowed, every lost pound counts!!

What I am saying to anyone reading this blog who wants to lose weight is ‘you CAN do it’, I did and still am and being 40 now I really regret not doing it years ago, I spent the best part of my younger adulthood overweight and now looking back at pictures of how big I was is almost too painful for me!!

Not a day goes by now without someone commenting on my weight loss and how well I’ve done in such a short time, all of these comments have also helped me continue with my program so thank-you to all those people very much indeed!!

My weight loss has completely changed my life, I no longer feel tired or lethargic and have 10 times the energy I used to have. To think I was carrying an extra 70 pounds in weight is unbelievable!!

Please feel free to comment or e-mail me info@ejgrabham.fsnet.co.uk if you would like any further information, help or advice with your weight loss.

Thank-you to my dear wife Michelle, my family and my friends for all your support and encouragement in helping me achieve what I have done and am continuing to do.

Remember I did it - YOU CAN too!!
